The Dirty Truth About Filters

 There's something you need to know about filters.   Any filters.  The filter in your furnace, in your ice water pitcher.  The filters in your vehicle.  ALL filters.

They are made to "fail." Maybe I should put an asterisk next to that.  When I say fail, they will or are designed and made with the idea of getting clogged and needing to be cleaned or replaced. In that sense, they are made to fail.

Which means... filters are made to be inspected.  Regularly,  at specific intervals, on a schedule.  They MUST be checked and cleaned or replaced.

This is to protect bigger, more sensitive systems that require clean flow through them.  Whether that be air, fluids, even gases.  The filter protects the system and keeps it operational. 

When filters go without being inspected or maintained, bad things can happen.  Sudden shutdowns, poor performance, fires can be started.  Things can literally explode.

Just because no one checked the filters.

Often it's a matter of "out-of-sight-out-of-mind" and they just ont think about it.  In some cases, people don't even realize there is a filter there that needs to be checked.  In a lot of cases, it's just laziness.   Irregardless, those filters need to be inspected, on schedule.

Some filters are permanent or fixed and need to be cleaned to keep operating properly.   Some filters are made if consumables and are designed to be replaced instead. No matter which,  they need to be kept clean so that things work properly and safely. 

Not only can things burn or go boom.  Systems work exponentially harder when filters get clogged.  That's more wear and tear onthe system causing it to be repaired or replaced more often.  That's more money, more often.

And yes, when I say "burn" or "boom", that's literal.   Much of the debris that's gets caught up in common filters can start to burn, even be combustible.   Huge safety issue that's relatively easy to prevent with simple, regular, preventative maintenance.
